Bakeries

People in North America have some weird misunderstandings about food. In North America a “bakery” is a place that sells sweet pastry, that was not necessarily baked at the same place or on the same day.

In France a bakery is a place in which various types of bread and perhaps also sweet pastry are baked and sold as fresh as possible. It is the same way in Israel, although in France there are probably many more of them. (The good thing about Israeli bakeries is that you can usually be sure that there’s no animal fat in the bread.)

In France they hardly sell bread in the supermarket – only weird and desperate people would buy bread in a plastic bag in a supermarket when such wonderful fresh bread can be bought near one’s home.

We traveled in many places in North America and hoped to find a bakery that sells fresh bread, but all the “bakeries” just sell sweet stuff. We love sweet stuff, but not too much of it.

But hey, that’s probably on of the reasons why so many Americans dream about going to Europe.

When i became vegetarian, everyone told me that i am going to lose all the B12 i have and die in terrible pain. Well, i have been vegetarian for over four years and my B12 is steadily going up.

Beer, Vegetarianism, Holocaust

Apparently dead fish are used in the production of Murphy’s and Guiness. This really really sucks.

Some vegetarians say that vegetarianism is right, natural or healthy.

It is supposedly right and natural, because our teeth and stomachs are different from those of predators and similar to those of herbivores. Maybe, but technically we are able to eat and digest meat.

It is supposedly healthy, because it lowers the chance of certain illnesses, such as cancer. Since i am not a physician, i cannot assert that it’s true.

I am vegetarian, because i am not able to kill an animal that doesn’t hurt me in any way in order to eat it and because it is possible to live without eating meat. How do i know that it is possible? There are many millions of people around the world who survive without meat, and i don’t think that all of them are lying. This is a very simplistic and non-scientific check, but it makes sense to me. As far as i am concerned, this is more true than the claims of vegetarians, who claim that it is healthy, even though they don’t know anything about medicine.

Hamas accuses UN of plan to teach Gaza kids Holocaust, because it is “a lie invented by the Zionists”.

I don’t know whether Holocaust happened. I don’t know how many people were killed there and how they were killed. I wasn’t born then. There are some scholars that present proofs that it happened, and there are some others that present proofs that it didn’t. I am too busy to study all of it.

What i do know is that during my life in Israel i have met quite a lot of people with numbers tattooed on their arms and i don’t think that they did it in order to participate in any kind of lie.

Almost Made Me Cry – Chicken

Driving alone on Kvish 6. Putting on I Can Hear the Heart Beating As One. That’s right, the album that opened my “Made Me Cry” series.

I already expect that i’ll cry of happiness from listening to this brilliant record.

And then i see a truck of cows that are going to die. No happiness.

And then i also realized that the opening track is titled “Return to Hot Chicken”. Great. Everything is broken.

Actually i should try to suppress and forget this stupid experience.

Five-Cornered Drone (Crispy Duck)

Another vegetarian victory: No more crispy duck served at Beijing toilets.

LOLVEG

I waited for it so long – the vegetarian lolcat.

What do i have to write about the pride parade in Jerusalem?

Nothing much.

I think that those parades are kinda pointless, especially in Israel, because in practice gay rights in Israel are in a pretty good shape compared to the rest of the world. And so is the general public tolerance. It’s legal to have sex with anyone you want and same-sex civil unions are not defined in law, but they are defined well enough in court precedents, and that’s what counts. On the Hebrew Wikipedia they pretty much rule. Those who think that they don’t yet rule in Jerusalem are quite wrong.

But i don’t mind. Let them march if they think that it’s fun. I pity those who violently oppose it – they should find something better to do.

Plus, it was on the previous pride parade in Jerusalem that Hadar finally decided to go veg after i talked about it with her for years, so something good came out of it for me.
